Where to Stay in Savannah: The Best Hotels & Inns by Area
September 11, 2026
Where to stay in Savannah, honestly organized by area — the Historic District, River Street, Tybee, and the I-95 corridor — what each neighborhood actually costs, sounds like, and walks like.
Savannah is small enough that you can't pick a "wrong" place to sleep — but you can pick the wrong place for your trip. The mansion inn two blocks from Chippewa Square is perfect for a romantic weekend and weird for a family with a car full of beach gear. The suite hotel by the airport is a lifesaver for a 6 AM flight and a letdown if you want to walk to dinner.
This guide matches the stay to the trip, area by area. Every property below is drawn from The Local Savannah's verified hotels directory, where you'll find full listings with addresses, phones, and details for all 35 hotels, inns, and resorts in our coverage area.

How to Choose Your Savannah Base
Three honest questions decide it:
Do you want to walk everywhere? Then stay in the Historic District. The squares, the riverfront, the restaurants — it's all on foot from any downtown address, and the district's boutique hotels and inns are the reason people fall in love with this city.
Are you here for the beach? Tybee Island is its own town with its own lodging, twenty-something minutes from downtown. Split your stay, or base yourself on the island and day-trip in — our Tybee Island day trip guide covers what to do when you get there.
Is this a road trip or an early flight? The Pooler airport corridor and the I-95 hotels south and north of the city are the practical play — newer builds, easy parking, free breakfast culture, and 15 minutes to downtown when you want it.
One note on downtown: the Historic District is old, and so is its parking. If you're staying in a historic inn or mansion hotel, expect to plan around parking rather than pull up to a vast lot — check with the property when you book.
Historic District: Downtown Luxury and Boutique Hotels
The heart of Savannah's hotel scene is a tight cluster of blocks where 19th-century buildings got modern interiors. These are the downtown standouts:
Perry Lane Hotel sits right in the thick of the historic district — a pet-friendly luxury hotel layered with eclectic artwork and curated antiques, a signature restaurant (The Emporium), and a rooftop bar and pool that regulars treat as the best-kept sunset spot downtown. Check rates at Perry Lane Hotel
Hotel Bardo Savannah is the full-resort play: an urban resort inside a renovated 19th-century mansion beside Forsyth Park, with the Saltgrass spa, Italian-inspired dining at Saint Bibiana, and poolside evenings at Bar Bardo. You could spend a weekend without leaving the block.
The DeSoto Savannah has anchored the center of the district since 1890 — a landmark with a lobby art gallery, a refined bourbon and whiskey bar, farm-to-table dining, and a rooftop pool with the kind of views a 130-year-old address earns.
The Kimpton Brice Hotel, tucked near Washington Square, is the pick for travelers who won't leave the dog at home. It's fully pet-friendly, with a lush secret-garden courtyard and pool, and the Kimpton's famous daily social hour.
The Marshall House, built in 1851, is the history choice — Broughton Street location, genuine Civil War past, a haunted-landmark reputation that's part of its charm, plus daily continental breakfast and a nightly wine reception.
Several of these welcome pets and several don't — the directory listings note the details, and it's worth confirming before you book.
River Street and the Riverfront
If you want to wake up looking at the Savannah River, these are the properties built for it:
River Street Inn occupies a beautifully preserved 1817 cotton warehouse right on River Street — exposed brick, scenic river views, a Historic Hotels of America pedigree, and a welcoming wine reception after a day of cobblestones.
The Alida Hotel brings contemporary Southern style to the riverfront side of the district, with the rooftop bar The Lost Square, a heated pool, the restaurant Rhett, and a pet-friendly policy for river-walk companions.
The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront perches over the river with a vintage-nautical look — the rooftop lounge Rocks on the Roof for the views, Rocks on the River for meals at the water's edge.
The Drayton Hotel lives in the 1890 American Trust building — boutique scale, rooftop views over City Hall and the river, dining at St. Neo's Brasserie, and cocktails in the intimate Vinyl Room.
Staying riverfront means you're steps from the River Street guide's whole world of shops, pubs, and people-watching — and an easy walk up to everything else downtown.
Historic B&Bs and Mansion Inns (the Short Version)
Savannah's most romantic sleep is inside a historic mansion inn — think mid-1800s ballast-brick mansions, afternoon tea, evening wine receptions, breakfast cooked in the house. The directory has a dozen of them: The Douglas (formerly Ballastone Inn), Kehoe House, The Gastonian, Hamilton-Turner Inn, Foley House Inn, The Eliza Thompson House, and more, each with its own square and its own story.
We give the full, inn-by-inn treatment — including which are adults-only, which welcome pets, and which pour port at bedtime — in our dedicated guide: Savannah's Most Charming Historic B&Bs and Inns.
Tybee Island: The Beach Stay
Tybee's lodging scene is small and lovable — four properties in the directory, each a different beach trip:
Hotel Tybee is the classic family oceanfront resort on South Beach: over 130 years of history, two outdoor pools, a poolside tiki bar, and a walkway straight onto the sand. Check rates at Hotel Tybee
DeSoto Beach Hotel is Tybee's only direct beachfront hotel — a heated and cooled oceanfront pool, direct beach access, and a complimentary breakfast every morning.
Surf Song Bed & Breakfast, an 1898 Victorian on North Beach, is the historic-charmer option — wrap-around porch, outdoor pool, borrowed beach gear, and the lighthouse a short walk away.
Tybee Island Inn Bed & Breakfast sits in the quiet residential end near the lighthouse and Fort Screven — southern breakfasts in the garden gazebo, porch swings, a tropical-retreat pace. Full listing: verified hotels directory.
Base on Tybee and day-trip into the city, or split the week — either works. The Tybee day trip guide has the island logistics.
Pooler and the Airport: The Practical Stay
Flying in early, out early, or road-tripping through? Pooler's airport corridor is the value zone — newer hotels, free breakfast, free parking, and the Tanger Outlets next door:
Embassy Suites by Hilton Savannah Airport — the family flyer's friend: all-suite layout, free cooked-to-order breakfast, complimentary evening manager's reception, indoor pool, and an airport shuttle. Check rates at Embassy Suites
Drury Plaza Hotel Savannah Pooler — the value standout: indoor/outdoor pool and whirlpool, free hot breakfast, and the famous 5:30 Kickback with free evening drinks and food. Check rates at Drury Plaza
Aloft Savannah Airport — the modern loft-style pick, with the W XYZ bar scene, an outdoor splash pool, fitness center, pet-friendly rooms, and Marriott Bonvoy perks.
Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Pooler/Savannah — the budget base: free Wi-Fi and parking, a seasonal outdoor pool, continental breakfast, and instant I-95 access.

The I-95 Corridor: Richmond Hill and Port Wentworth
South and just north of the city, four more reliable stops for I-95 travelers:
Home2 Suites by Hilton Richmond Hill Savannah I-95 — eco- and pet-friendly extended-stay suites with in-room kitchens, a saline outdoor pool, free hot breakfast, and the Spin2 Cycle laundry-and-fitness combo.
Best Western Plus Richmond Hill Inn — a family treat: indoor heated pool, game room, free hot breakfast, and 24-hour lemonade and ice cream.
Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Savannah I-95 North — Port Wentworth comfort with an indoor heated pool and hot tub, lobby cookies, and a lending library.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Savannah N - Port Wentworth — modern and eco-friendly, with the Express Start breakfast (the cinnamon rolls are famous for a reason) and an outdoor pool.
Beyond the Core: Resorts and Extended Stays
The Landings Golf & Athletic Club Guest Accommodations on Skidaway Island is the resort splurge — guest villas with full access to the athletic club: six championship golf courses, dozens of tennis and pickleball courts, multiple pools, and clubhouse dining.
For longer work stays and budget overnights on the west side: WoodSpring Suites Savannah Garden City (extended-stay suites with full in-room kitchens, weekly and monthly rates, dog-friendly), Iris Garden Inn in Garden City (boutique-feel budget rooms, outdoor pool, continental breakfast, near the port and Enmarket Arena), and Rincon Inn & Suites up in Effingham County (24-hour front desk, free parking, highway access).
