River Street Savannah: The Complete Guide to the Waterfront
September 6, 2026
Everything on River Street — the shops, the restaurants, the riverboats, and how to actually enjoy Savannah's waterfront.
River Street is what most people picture when they picture Savannah: cobblestones, converted cotton warehouses, a working river with container ships sliding past close enough to wave at. It's touristy in the best way — and it rewards knowing what's actually worth your time. Here's the waterfront, end to end.
Eat: The Warehouse District's Best Tables
The restaurants here all share the same DNA — 19th-century cotton warehouses, brick and timber, river views — but they're not interchangeable.
River House Seafood (125 W River St) is direct waterfront dining in a converted 19th-century warehouse with an in-house bakery producing fresh bread and pralines daily and a fresh daily catch. The Shrimp Factory (313 E River St) lives in an 1823 warehouse and pours the famous Chatham Artillery Punch in souvenir glasses alongside local wild Georgia shrimp and pine bark stew. Vic's on the River (26 E Bay St) works for a slightly dressier meal — panoramic river views, a live piano bar, and a hand-drawn Civil War map on the wall sketched by General Sherman's officers. Huey's On The River (115 E River St) is the breakfast-and-beignets play: New Orleans-style beignets made fresh all day, po'boys, jambalaya, crab cakes.
Chart House on the riverfront runs one of the longest happy hours on the street (Monday–Friday 4:30–7:00 PM in the lounge, per our verified happy-hour listings).
Drink: Frozen Daiquiris to Rooftop Neon
Wet Willie's is the River Street institution — the frozen daiquiri bar everyone photographs first, with a verified Monday–Friday 4:00–7:00 PM happy hour ($1 off all daiquiri sizes, half-price select appetizers). The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront (102 W Bay St) is home to Rocks on the Roof, a vibrant rooftop cocktail lounge with river views — its verified happy hour runs Monday–Thursday 4:00–6:00 PM.
At the west end, the Plant Riverside District (400 W River St) is the modern counterpoint to the historic strip: Electric Moon Skytop Lounge + Moon Deck sits atop the Power Plant Building with craft cocktails, draft beer, small plates, DJ music, adult lawn games — and yes, an adult playground slide connecting the lounge to the Moon Deck. Myrtle & Rose Rooftop Garden pours $10 signature craft cocktails and discounted flatbreads on its verified Monday–Thursday happy hour (4:00–6:00 PM). And District Live, inside the JW Marriott, is an intimate 500-capacity concert venue operated in partnership with Live Nation — check its calendar before you plan your night.
Sleep: Warehouses You Can Stay In
River Street Inn (124 E Bay St) is a Historic Hotels of America member in an 1817 cotton warehouse building — exposed brick interiors, river views, and a nightly wine reception. Olde Harbour Inn (508 E Factors Walk) is an all-suite pet-friendly property in an 1892 oil-and-ice warehouse with kitchenettes, wine-and-cheese receptions, and ice cream delivery — plus haunted history: the inn's own listing introduces "Hank the Ghost." The Bohemian brings Autograph Collection style with vintage nautical interiors and riverfront rooms.
Do: Ghosts, Oddities, and People-Watching
This is one of America's most haunted cities, and the riverfront carries a lot of it. Ghosts & Gravestones departs from 301 E River St on a 75-minute nighttime "Trolley of the Doomed" with costumed grave-digger guides and exclusive nighttime access to two haunted historic buildings. Graveface Museum & After Life Tours sits at 410 C St on Factor's Walk — true crime, cults, UFOs, vintage pinball, and 2.5-hour guided paranormal explorations.
Between stops, do what the street is actually built for: walk the cobblestones, watch the river traffic, and grab a praline while a giant container ship glides past.
